Thank you to our Board of Directors, Vendors, Sponsors, Volunteers, Members, and the Public who attended our collection events and made them a great success! We will have complete collection data in our Annual Report, which will be published in January.

What's Happening...

Westmoreland Cleanways is dedicated to providing more opportunities for our county residents to recycle. We have been busy this year implementing a number of new programs that we'd like to mention as we continue to update our website. These programs include:

  • Christmas Tree-Cycling: With the holiday season upon us, we would like to encourage all to continue the spirit of giving by recycling your live Christmas tree. After the festivities are finished, you can take your tree to one of 20 drop-off sites located throughout Westmoreland County. The trees will either be chipped into mulch by the municipalities and used to beautify community parks, or placed in natural areas to provide wildlife habitat. Click here for a list of locations, dates, and times. For more information about live Christmas trees, please visit the National Christmas Tree Association's website.

  • NEW Single Stream Recycling Program: Westmoreland Cleanways has partnered with Greenstar and Waste Management to bring this expanded drop-off recycling program to Westmoreland County. To find out what is accepted for recycling and our current drop-off locations, please visit here.

  • Northeastern Westmoreland County Recycling Program: Partnering with Waste Management, a recycling program has been implemented for the residents of New Florence Borough, Seward Borough, Bolivar Borough, and St. Clair Township. Accepting Plastic #1 & #2, Aluminum/Bimetal Cans, Clear/Green/Brown Glass, and Newsprint, the bin is located at the Roadway Plaza at 6858 Route 711 in Seward.

  • Why Recycle? Greenstar, our partner that brought Single Stream Recycling toWestmoreland County, has a complete Recycling Teachers' Guide to assist in classroom curriculum. This guide also has interesting recycling facts to keep "students" of all ages informed and entertained. What exactly is the Mobius Loop? Approximately how much trash does the average American generate per day? What are the benefits of recycling? See for yourself here!

  • Recycling Guide 2008: This downloadable version is now available here. For a list of updates for additional recycling resources not included in our Guide, visit our Recycling Updates page.
