Despite the unusual state of affairs in 2020, Westmoreland Cleanways is proud to report:
- In January 2020, the Recycling Center moved from a 3,400 ft² warehouse to an eight acre property with 20,000 ft² or warehouse space.
- In December 2020, Westmoreland Cleanways become property owners of said eight acre property, 355 Pleasant Unity Mutual Road in Greenburg.
- Awarded a $46,500 grant from the Foodservice Packaging Institute to add a foam densifier to the Recycling Center. We began accepting polystyrene in November when the FoamCycle machine was installed.
- Through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, we were awarded a Richard King Mellon Foundation Grant to be used towards making educational videos about our Recycling Center.
- During 2 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events, 339 households participated, dropping off 30,315 pounds of HHW.
- We had over 8,600 visitors to the center, despite being closed for 4 months, and then unable to accept electronics for 2 more months.
- Shipped out for proper disposal:
- 840,000 pounds of TVs
- 137,120 pounds of e-waste
- 98, 500 pounds of paper and cardboard
- 33,885 pounds of lead acid batteries
- 100,000 pounds (50 tons) of glass
- approximately 4780 tires
- approximately 18,200 bulbs
- approximately 650 Freon items
- approximately 100 tons of scrap metal
