Dumped tires are a perfect setting for standing water. And standing water is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitos, possible carriers of the West Nile Virus and other mosquito borne diseases. In effort to minimize the number of mosquito breeding grounds, Westmoreland Cleanways has partnered with the Westmoreland Conservation District West Nile Virus Program to host the West Nile Virus Cleanup.
Customers will receive a $1.00 per tire discount off the regular disposal cost for each tire turned in. (Businesses are not eligible for the recycling discount.)
Regular disposal cost are as follows:
Passenger/Light Truck Tires: $4.00 Off Rim/$5.00 On Rim*
Tractor Trailer (19.5, 22.5, 24.5): $15.00 Off Rim/ $18.00 On Rim*
Agricultural/farm tractor (based on size): $80.00*
Highway/construction/heavy equipment (based on size): $80.00*
Cash, checks and cards will be accepted!
Please note: Groups cleaning up tires from illegal dump sites MUST notify Cleanways prior to July 6th to receive free tire recycling during the event.
If an individual is planning on bringing a LARGE quantity of tires, please notify Cleanways prior to the event.
We are looking for volunteers for the event. Lifting tires is a very physically demanding and dirty job. Wear old clothes and expect to repetitively lift 25-50 pounds.
