Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling’s Board and Staff recognize the passing of Albert Barnett and Archie Bossart in early 2018. As founding members of Westmoreland Cleanways, it is impossible to quantify what these two gentlemen contributed to this organization. Countless hours of slinging tires, picking up trash, assisting at collection events, attending board meetings and other discussions, helping in the office and lending moral support; you name it, Al and Archie where there. For over 20 years, their quiet strength and common sense through thick and thin never wavered, helping to keep this organization true to its visions and goals. We are honored to carry on the legacy begun in 1990 by Sue Wiseman and her band of visionaries, and ever so grateful to Al and Archie for keeping us on the right path.

As of October 1, 2021, after 23 years of working with Westmoreland Cleanways Ellen Keefe has retired. Ellen’s vision, drive, and tenacity led to Cleanways ability to implement a recycling center, and advance recycling and waste reduction within Westmoreland County. She took a very small nonprofit organization and created an enduring legacy that the board, the new executive director- Mike Skapura, and the staff will strive to honor and uphold.
Meet the new Executive Director, Michael Skapura
Although this is Mike’s first position in the world of recycling, he brings a variety of experience with him to the position. Mike has a B.A. in Mathematics from St. Vincent College and worked over 25 years managing a local plastics manufacturing company. He has ties to the community as a local volunteer firefighter and as a member of a few local organizations. In fact, his grandfather worked at the coal mine and the coke ovens in Humphrey and his dad played ball on the Humphrey baseball field that used to be on the property our facility is currently on. Mike is committed to helping the community that he grew up in, continuing to enhance recycling in Westmoreland County, working with community leaders and providing educational programs for youth and adults.
