Since the Spring of 2023 Westmoreland Cleanways has accepted plastic bags and film for recycling. During that time visitors have become so GOOD at recycling that some are bringing us huge loads, 700 – 1,000 pounds of plastic at one time. We do love the effort, unfortunately we are unable to handle such a large amount of plastic at one time.
New Rules/Reminders for Plastic Bag Drop OFF:
- Material must be CLEAN and DRY, free of receipts, food, and organic residue.
- Don’t mix other recyclables, such as cans, plastic bottles, and cardboard within the bags.
- The MAXIMUM amount of plastic bags/film we will accept per load is 250 pounds.
- Call ahead to schedule the drop off of a LARGE load of plastic bags especially if they need weighed.
- If the material is found unacceptable by Westmoreland Cleanways staff, we will reject the entire load from drop off.

- Bread bags
- Dry cleaning bags
- Zip-top food storage bags
- Ice bags
- Wood pellet bags
- Salt bags
- Plastic shipping envelopes (remove labels)
- Bubble wrap and air pillows (deflate)
- Furniture and electronic wrap
- Plastic cereal box liners
- Product wrap on cases of water/soda bottles, paper towels, napkins, disposable cups, bathroom tissue, and diapers.
- Plastic films labeled with #2 HDPE or #4 LDPE recycling symbol (polyethylene films)
